PhatNight 2!

Turning out a TEDx forum, turning bullets into beauty, and turning on the lights when there's no electricity.

PhatNight2

On Wednesday the 11th of December, PhatRice was so pleased to present our second PhatNight event!

PhatNight2

PhatNight is a fabulous (and fun!) chance to connect our supporters, investors and brand new friends. It's a night where eco, environmental and ethically minded Hong Kongers can enjoy a glass of wine, browse innovative and thoughtfully-created products, and learn more about PhatRice.

PhatNight2

The focus of PhatNight 2 was Impact Investing. How do we put our time and our resources into conscientious, cutting-edge products and people?

PhatNight2

First to the podium was speaker Paul Angwin, AKA the official curator and spokesperson of TEDxWanChai. (Yeah; we think it's pretty cool too).

PhatNight2

Paul discussed his experience of finding and telling stories of global impact and improvement, and where a company like PhatRice fits into that mosaic of positive production and investment.

PhatNight2

Next up was Cassandra Postema, an award-winning designer who got her start in the high-fashion world of London before creating her own, socially driven brand: Emi & Eve.

PhatNight2

Emi & Eve: Bullets to Beauty works with small-scale, local craftspeople in Cambodia to upcycle used bullets and bomb casings, creating edgy and unique accessories that truly turn a negative into something beautiful.

PhatNight2

Finally, PhatNight 2 attendees heard from Xianyi Wu of d.light design, a company that produces low cost, solar powered lamps intended for use in areas of the world that would otherwise rely on kerosene.

PhatNight2

Xianyi explained the global potential of a for-profit social enterprise like d.light -- and how good design and affordability go a long way toward creating a viable, a valuable, and perhaps most importantly a benevolent product.

PhatNight2

PhatRice is built upon the stories, creativity and drive of the people we work with, and PhatNight is a brilliant chance to share those insights and inspirations. Can't wait for PhatNight 3!
